Laura Kolkman, founder and president of Mosaica Partners, a nationally recognized health information exchange (HIE) consulting firm, has been selected as a Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
"It is an honor to have achieved this designation, especially within an organization that places such a strong emphasis on professional development and industry contributions," said Kolkman, MS, BSN, RN, FHIMSS. "Serving alongside such influential members of the healthcare community has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to continuing my work with them as we focus on further improving the healthcare system."
With more than 35,000 individual, 520 corporate and 120 not-for-profit organization members, HIMSS is the largest U.S. cause-based, not-for-profit healthcare association focused on the use of information technology and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.
Fellow members are considered leaders within HIMSS and recognized for their contributions and dedication to the Society and healthcare industry. To advance to Fellow status, HIMSS members must meet several criteria based on professional capability, experience, leadership and service to their profession and the Society. Those members who obtain the Fellow member status are awarded the FHIMSS designation, are honored at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition and asked to participate in special taskforce workgroups.
With more than 20 years of experience, Kolkman has a background in nursing and computer science. Under her leadership, Mosaica Partners has developed proprietary assessment and HIE formation methodologies for clients that include federal and state agencies, regional non-profits, individual HIEs and numerous HIE/HIT vendors. Most recently, Kolkman co-authored The Health Information Exchange Formation Guide - The Authoritative Guide for Planning and Forming an HIE in Your State, Region o Community, which was published by HIMSS in early 2011.
