National eHealth Collaborative (NeHC) on Jan. 12, 2011 announced the appointment of Kate Berry as chief executive officer (CEO). Berry brings over 20 years of healthcare experience to NeHC, with a successful track record in corporate and non-profit organizations.

Simon Cohn, MD, MPH, incoming chair of the NeHC Board of Directors and Associate Executive Director of Health Information Policy at Kaiser Permanente, said, "NeHC is poised to become a leading voice in the health information technology community in the coming year. NeHC is uniquely positioned as a public-private partnership to enable and advocate for nationwide health information exchange to advance health and improve healthcare. We are delighted to have Kate on board to build on the vision and mission of NeHC and further its contribution to the ongoing health IT conversation."

In multiple settings, Kate Berry has collaborated with and leveraged diverse stakeholder relationships. Prior to joining NeHC, Berry served as senior vice president at Surescripts and as executive director of the Center for Improving Medication Management. Additionally, Berry served as executive vice president of External Relations and Chief of Staff at the American Red Cross and has a background in healthcare management consulting.

"Given her background and experience, it is clear that Kate will lead the evolution of National eHealth Collaborative in harmony with the rapidly changing health IT environment. The CEO Search Committee is confident that she will draw on her past successes to create future opportunities for NeHC to play a leading role in the continuing advancement of the Nationwide Health Information Network and across the landscape of health information exchange," said Laura Adams, president and CEO of Rhode Island Quality Institute, outgoing chair of the NeHC Board of Directors and member of the NeHC CEO Search Committee.

"It is exciting to become CEO of National eHealth Collaborative," said Berry. "NeHC has an extraordinary Board of Directors and a reputation as a respected and inclusive organization in the health IT community. I'm looking forward to working with the Board and staff to accelerate NeHC's efforts to transform healthcare through the innovative access, sharing, and use of health information."

Kate Berry will begin her tenure as NeHC's chief executive immediately. Former NeHC interim CEO Aaron Seib will continue as a senior leader within the organization.
