Chronic Kidney Disease Management (351)
According to statistics published in 2010 by the National Kidney Foundation, nearly 26 million American adults have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and millions of others are at increased risk. High-risk groups include individuals with diabetes, hypertension and a familial history of kidney disease. In the U.S., we continue to see increasing rates of diabetes mellitus and hypertension annually, and in turn, we see increasing numbers of people developing CKD. In fact, two-third of the cases of CKD are attributed to hypertension or diabetes mellitus.
The goal of this CE offering is to review the latest information on treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). After reading this article, you will be able to:
1. Describe the pathophysiology of CKD.
2. Discuss the clinical manifestations of CKD.
3. Describe dialytic treatment modalities for CKD.
